Join us for a workshop bringing together researchers working with X-ray tomography and 3D image analysis across different scientific fields.
Explore shared challenges, methods and practical solutions in areas such as segmentation, feature extraction, quantitative analysis and machine learning.
When: Friday 6 November 2026, 09:00–17:00
Where: LINXS and online via Zoom

How much can different X-ray tomography communities learn from each other?
X-ray tomography is used across diverse research fields, yet many of the challenges involved in analysing 3D data are remarkably similar. Segmentation, feature extraction, quantitative analysis and increasingly machine-learning-based approaches are central to many of these workflows, but methods and expertise are often developed within individual application areas.
This meeting brings together researchers working with X-ray tomography and image analysis to exchange methods, challenges and practical solutions across disciplines. Expert talks will introduce current approaches and perspectives, while participants will have the opportunity to showcase their own work, workflows and analysis challenges.
Rather than a hands-on course or hackathon, the meeting will focus on scientific and methodological exchange: What approaches work well, and where do they struggle? Which solutions developed in one field could be useful in another? Where are the common challenges that could benefit from joint efforts?
Through presentations, discussions and brainstorming sessions, the meeting aims to identify opportunities for knowledge exchange and future collaboration across the tomography community. It is intended as a starting point for continued activities bringing researchers together around shared challenges in image analysis.
Participants who are interested in presenting their work will be contacted by the organizers before the meeting to help coordinate the talks. Depending on the number of presentations, we anticipate approximately 10–15 minutes per talk. Presentations should ideally focus on image analysis workflows, highlighting approaches that worked well (or did not), as well as current challenges and open questions.
